Your doctor may diagnose you using one of several updated terms, depending on your symptoms and exam findings. One possibility is hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS), a connective tissue disorder that's defined by a specific set of diagnostic criteria.
Another possibility is hypermobility spectrum disorder (HSD). This describes symptomatic joint hypermobility that doesn't meet the criteria for hEDS or another condition. In this case, you might be diagnosed with the following:
Generalized HSD — Hypermobility affects many joints in your body.
Peripheral HSD — Hypermobility affects mainly your hands and feet.
Localized HSD — Hypermobility affects one joint or a limited group of joints.
Historical HSD — You used to be more flexible, but still have related symptoms.
